Barclays US Introduces A New App And Website Design

A few days ago I wrote about how Barclaycard US was working on changing its name to simply Barclays US. I personally am a big fan on the change as I never really loved the name Barclaycard. In my prior post I make the prediction that we would see a whole new app website design in the coming days or weeks. Well, as of today, those changes have officially made and personally, I am a fan.

I specifically noticed the change to the mobile app this morning when I checked my phone. I noticed the little blue swirl icon looked different in my “Bank” folder. Sure enough, when I expanded the folder I discovered not only the new mobile app design, but also the new name.

I personally never liked the old Barclaycard blue swirl design so I welcome the newly designed mobile app which prominently displays the Barclay’s Eagle. In addition to the change of the icon, the name of the app also change. Before the app title read Barclaycard and now the name is simply Barclays US.

The app logo and name aren’t the only changes to the mobile app however. When you open the app you’ll find additional changes on the log-in screen.

On the app log-in screen you’ll notice the header now reads just Barclays and features the iconic Eagle. I find it interesting that the app does not maintain the Barclays US branding. Perhaps we will soon see the US drop off of the mobile app name as well.

Getting to the Barclays US website is now different from before. As per usual you access your Barclays account by visiting Barclaycardus.com. From there however you will begin to notice changes. The mobile version of the Barclays US website now looks like this.

Again, at the top of the page we find the Eagle next to just the word Barclays. The desktop version of the Barclays US website now looks like this.

Right, you get it, it also now has traditional Barclays branding. What’s worth noting however is that you can access the site by either visiting BarclaycardUS.com or by simply visiting BarclaysUS.com either option takes you to the same homepage! Oh, right, that’s not terribly exciting either.

Final Thoughts

As I mentioned earlier, I’m personally happy to see the horrible Barclaycard logo and name go away. I much prefer the name Barclays beside the bank’s signature Eagle logo.

Going forward I’m curious to see what other minor changes happen. My guess is that all replacement cards and new cards going forward will simply feature the Barclays name. I doubt the cards will say Barclays US. After that I suspect the mobile app will eventually drop the US from the name and simply read Barclays. Lastly, over time, I suspect the BarclaycardUS.com web address will be replaced with the BarclaysUS.com website. Anyone who attempts to visit BarclaycardUS will most likely then be redirected to BarclaysUS which is the opposite of how it works today.

Either way, I appreciate the change and am happy to see it taking place so quickly.
