Make a green choice from Starwood Hotels & Resorts is one of the best ways to quickly earn points that I’ve come across. When you Make a Green Choice (MAGC) at a participating Starwood Hotel, you will earn between 250-500 points each day you participate (excluding check-out date). Make a Green Choice rewards travelers for opting out of room service during their stay, a choice many frequent travelers make on their own without an incentive. This promotion is an insanely easy way to earn SPG points when staying at an SPG property.
I was introduced to the program when checking-in to the Sheraton Milwaukee Brookfield hotel. At check-in the receptionist asked if I would like to “Make a Green Choice.” I had no idea what she was talking about. She explained, each day I opted out of room service, I would receive a voucher for 500 SPG points OR $5.00 at the hotel bar/restaurant. Easy Choice, I took the points.
Each morning a little note card arrived under my door informing me that by opting out and returning the card to the front desk upon checkout, I would receive the 500 SPG points in my account. I filled out the form completely and to ensure I received the points added my SPG # next to my name. Two days after checking out, the points arrived.
The points breakdown of my stay are as follows:
- 3 Night Stay – 690 Starpoints
- SPG Elite Bonus – 345 Starpoints
- Make A Green Choice – 1000 Starpoints (2 days)
I find it incredible that by simply opting out of room service, I received almost as many Starpoints as I did for my entire stay. Also, it is important to note that the SPG Elite Bonus was from SPG Gold status attained via the Platinum Card from American Express.
I hope more hotels begin offering points for opting out of room service. Not only will it help hotels cut down on water, cleaning supplies, etc., but it give frequent travelers to earn extra points to bank toward their next stay for very little effort.
Safe Travels!
