A few days ago I received an interesting offer from American Airlines. American isn’t great at partnering with hotels normally. In the past American rarely offered cross promotions with brands like SPG, Marriott, or Hyatt. It seems those days are over. In fact, a few weeks prior I received another offer from American to earn AAdvantage miles for SPG stays.
Celebrating Canada’s 150th Birthday!
The offer I received other day is to earn AAdvantage miles and Hilton Honors points with each night spent at a qualifying Hilton property in Canada. Specifically Hilton Honors and AAdvantage members earn 1,500 points and 500 miles respectively. Keep in mind this is a bonus on top of regularly awarded Hilton Honors points.
The promotion requires Hilton Honors members to register prior to staying at a qualifying property. To register please visit this link. At the bottom of the page, enter your Hilton Honors account number or username and password. If you aren’t already a Hilton Honors member you can sign-up and register as well. Once registered there are still a few steps you need to take to make sure you earn both Hilton Honors points and AAdvantage miles.
The Fine Print
For starters this promotion officially began on June 1, 2017 and ends on August 31, 2017. That’s a fairly generous timeframe for the promotion and as far as I can tell there’s no limit to how many AAdvantage miles you can earn. Unfortunately, American didn’t send out the announcement of the promotion until July 20, 2017. It would have been nice to receive an email sooner.
Additionally, just because you register for the promotion and book a stay doesn’t mean you’ll earn AAdvantage miles. To earn AAdvantage miles you must select American Airlines as your ‘Double Dip® Points & Miles™ partner.’ You can select your Double Dip partner in your Hilton Honors account profile settings. Simply visit the Hilton website and log-in to your Hilton Honors account. Next, click on “My Account” to access your account settings. Then, scroll down to the “Preferences” tab. Within the preferences tab you’ll find the Preferred Travel Partners box. Simply add your American Airlines AAdvantage number and click ‘save.’
Final Thoughts
I realize you don’t have much time to complete a stay in Canada, but if you live close to the border it could be worth taking a short drive up to earn some extra miles. Keep in mind this promotion appears to offer unlimited points and miles. Even a short weekend stay will earn 1,000 AAdvantage miles and 3,000 Hilton Honors points, but the sky is the limit! Actually, the August 31, 2017 deadline is the limit, but who’s counting.
Even if you couldn’t take AAdvantage (oh boy) of this offer it’s still great to see American Airlines aggressively partnering with Hotels. Who knows maybe someday they’ll make a deal with Hilton and offer AAdvantage Gold status to Hilton Honors Elites like Marriott and United.
