For those who don’t know, Casey Neistat is one of the most famous personalities on YouTube. Some YouTube creators have more subscribers or get more views, but Casey’s videos tend to go “viral,” often. Chances are throughout the years you’ve seen at least one of his videos in the news.
On YouTube Casey documents crazy adventures around the world and at one time produced a vlog daily for nearly three years. Throughout all the years one thing has remained consistent, he flies, A LOT. Back in 2013 Casey made a video explaining how he gets upgraded on nearly every flight he takes. He uploaded the video around the same time I started to become really interested in miles and points. This was well before I knew FlyerTalk and ThePointsGuy existed.
In the above video Casey explains how, if you fly 100,000 miles in a year, you’ll receive Unlimited Complimentary Upgrades from American. While the process isn’t quite that easy anymore, the idea behind the video remains unchanged. Even back in 2013 Casey flew a lot, so as time has gone by, it’s safe to say he knows a thing or two about air travel. In recent years he’s used that knowledge to review some of the most extravagant premium cabin offerings in the sky.
Casey Neistat’s Flight Reviews
While Casey tends to fit short little reviews of first class products in his vlogs, about a year ago he published a full on Emirates First Class review. For the first time that I could remember his entire upload featured just an airplane seat. The video went viral immediately and nearly every major news network used it to show what flying first class is really like.
In the above video Casey documents the entire Emirates First Class experience and does so in an entertaining way. Throughout the video Casey showcases the outrageous Emirates First Class suite, the meal service, and most importantly, the onboard shower. It’s a truly over the top experience that I myself hope to experience someday soon.
I personally enjoy most of Casey’s videos. I find he does a great job being both a vlogger and an airline reviewer. Some airline reviews, such as those from Sam Chui, are informative, but not necessarily entertaining. On the other hand, there are tons of “vloggers” out there who’s airline reviews are unwatchable altogether. I especially dislike those from younger “youtubers” whose parents definitely didn’t pay for them to fly first class…
Casey Neistat’s Qatar Airways A350 Business Class Review
Since I like Casey’s work so much I couldn’t believe his timing with putting out a Qatar Airways A350 Business Class review from New York (JFK) to Doha (DOH). The reason I’m so excited about the video is that I’ll be flying this very same product on the same route in less than a month!
As with Casey’s other airline reviews, this one begins shortly after boarding. As the review progresses he highlights various aspects of the A350 Business Class cabin. He also reviews the on-demand dining services and the in-flight bed. Sadly, he doesn’t document any of the ground experience in either New York or Doha. I personally enjoy his flight reviews that begin with a little build up to boarding.
Overall, I wasn’t quite as impressed with this review as I have been with his other reviews. I don’t think it’s because he did a poor job with the review, I just don’t think Qatar’s A350 business class cabin is all that impressive. The A350 lacks an on-board bar, in-flight shower, or other over the top features often seen on the A380. Instead, from my understanding, it’s Qatar’s soft-product that makes the airline shine. While I’m glad to to see a preview of what to expect from my Qatar Airways A350 flight, I can’t help but feel as though this video doesn’t do the on-board experience justice.
Final Thoughts
I absolutely love Casey Neistat’s videos and especially enjoy the ones where he’s traveling. Sadly, this video just didn’t do it for me. It’s not that the video is bad, I just don’t think the Qatar A350 hard-product is all that exciting. Also, Casey isn’t quite as enthusiastic as he has been in other first class reviews. While I enjoyed watching the review and learning a bit more of what to expect from Qatar, the video doesn’t make me want to go out and buy a Qatar A350 business class ticket!
Overall I wish the video featured more of the entire Qatar experience. It would be nice if the video began in Doha at the Al Mourjan lounge instead. Apparently the business class lounge in Doha is incredible and I can’t wait to visit. I’m glad to see Casey put out another airline review as I truly enjoy watching them. I’m curious to see if he ever uses all of his AAdvantage miles to book an Etihad Residence experience. Now that would be an entertaining video.
