To end my insane Qatar Airways mileage run I’ve decided to break this trip report into two sections. I broke this trip into two trip reports because they really were two different trips. My first trip was 7 days in which I traveled from the US to Vietnam twice. It was an amazing trip mostly in Qatar Airways business class. I began my first trip with AAdvantage Gold elite status and ended the trip with AAdvantage Platinum Pro status.
For my second trip, which is now the “Around The World In A Weekend” trip, when I landed back in Doha I qualified for AAdvantage Executive Platinum status. From Doha I returned to Ho Chi Minh, but this time continued on to Hong Kong and then back to Chicago. For this trip I left work on Thursday evening and returned home on Sunday afternoon. It was a quick trip, but I was fortunate enough to review a few airlines and airline lounges along the way.

This trip also included a visit to the Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Business Class Lounge which I’ve reviewed previously and travel in Business Class on Qatar Airways’ Airbus A330 which I’ve also reviewed previously.
While the Cathay Pacific flights were just in economy class they were still quite enjoyable. However, the lounges in Hong Kong were truly fantastic. I’d argue that Cathay’s “The Wing” lounge is the best lounge I’ve ever visited.
Final Thoughts
While I realize I’m kind of cheating by breaking up my Qatar Airways mistake fare mileage run into two trip reports I think this bifurcation will help keep these trip reports organized. One thing that’s important to keep in mind at this point is that I’m not sure when I’ll get to my two Cathay Pacific lounge reviews. Although I spent time in both, I’m not sure I spent enough time in both to write thorough reviews. The good news is that I’m heading back to Hong Kong in January.
