Hurry, now is your last chance to earn Starbucks Gold status after just a single purchase with Chase Pay. The offer is to earn 300 Starbucks Stars after linking your Chase Pay account to your Starbucks account. The offer expires on March 19th 2018 (tomorrow), so make sure to act fast if you want to earn some extra stars quickly.
Download The Chase Pay Mobile App
To get in on this offer you have to first download the Chase Pay mobile app. If you’re not familiar with Chase Pay, the app is essentially a mobile wallet, but only for Chase credit cards. The app works by generating a unique QR code each time you want to make a purchase. You then have the merchant scan the QR code which ultimately charges your linked Chase credit card.
You can find the Chase Pay app in the app store.
Once you’ve downloaded the app you must log in to get started (no that is not my real Chase log-in).
To log-in to Chase Pay you only need to use existing Chase log-in credentials. There is no need to setup yet another log-in account. Once you reach the above screen simply type in your existing Chase account information. Chase will send you a verification code to prove your identity, but other than that logging into Chase Pay for the first time couldn’t be easier.
Register For The Starbucks 300 Star Chase Pay Offer
While the offer expires on March 19th, if you log-in before that date you should see a card near the top of the dashboard. The card should be similar to the one found below.
Once you see the card appear in your dashboard, click on the “Offer Details” to begin linking your Chase Pay and Starbucks Accounts.
Above is what the card looks like after completing the offer.
Use Chase Pay At Starbucks For Any Value Purchase
Once your accounts are linked the only step left is to use Chase Pay to make a single Starbucks purchase. It doesn’t matter how big or small the purchase is. Personally, I purchased a Tall Pike’s Place coffee for about $2. After making the purchase it may take a few days for your Stars to post.
About two days after making my purchase I received an email from Starbucks welcoming me to Gold Status. At that moment I logged into the Starbucks app on my phone and found the following message.
After closing the above window I checked my Starbucks dashboard and found the following. It appears although I reached Gold Status, my 300 Stars from my purchase are not quite available. However, I clearly didn’t earn Gold Status outside of this offer.
At the time of writing my Stars have not yet posted to my Starbucks App dashboard, but the 300 stars do show up in my Starbucks Rewards history page.
Benefits Of Starbucks Rewards Gold Status
Admittedly, before hearing about this offer I had never really payed attention to Starbucks Rewards status. I try to avoid paying for coffee since I can get it free most of the time. However, I realized that when I travel I tend to buy Starbucks which is why I signed up for Starbucks Rewards in the first place.
That being said, there are currently two Starbucks Rewards membership levels. The lowest level, awarded to all who sign-up is Starbucks Rewards Green Status. All Green status users receive the following:
To reach Starbucks Gold status you have to earn at least 300 Stars within a 12-month rolling calendar. Ever since Starbucks moved to a revenue based rewards system, that means you have to spend at least $150 a year to qualify for Gold. Once you unlock Gold status, you receive all of the benefits of Green Status, plus the following.
As you can see, there really aren’t that many benefits to Gold Status. Perhaps the greatest benefit is the shiny Gold Starbucks Rewards card (I can’t wait to get mine).
Final Thoughts
Before reading about this offer on OMMAT I had never given much consideration to Chase Pay. I knew the app existed, but I didn’t see any real value in using it. However, this promotion was incentive enough for me to download the app and buy a coffee. In total, taking advantage of this offer took less than 15 minutes and only cost about $2. For that I received 300 Starbucks Stars which mean I essentially get two free drinks. That includes their super venti outrageously expensive drinks too. Is it worth it, I mean, why not, it took 15 minutes!
All of that being said, Chase’s Q2 2018 Chase Freedom bonus category is all Chase Pay purchases. I suppose I’ll keep the app downloaded as I try to maximize that benefit over the next three months.
