Earlier this year American Express made yet another enhancement to the flagship Platinum charge card. Time time, American Express added a $100 a year statement credit for purchases made from Saks Fifth Avenue.
As with other credits from Amex all card members must to opt-in to this benefit by enrolling. Once enrolled card members receive two $50 statement credits every year. The first credit becomes available from July through December while the second becomes available January through June. In total, card members receive $100 in statement credits each card member year.
Enrolling In The Amex Platinum Saks Benefit
One crucial thing to remember when trying to use the $100 a year Saks benefit is that you must first enroll. If you do not enroll in the benefit you will not receive credit. Thankfully, Amex makes it easy to enroll in the Saks benefit. The simplest way to enroll is to visit your American Express Platinum card’s benefit page and find the Saks benefit.
From there you just have to click the “get started” button. Next you must agree to the benefit’s terms and click the “enroll card” button found on the next page. Overall, enrolling in the benefit takes no time at all. Keep in mind you can also enroll in the benefit by calling the number on the back of your card and asking a phone representative to enroll your card for the benefit.
Once enrolled to take advantage of the benefit you must simply make a qualifying purchase of $50 a more and the credit will automatically be applied to your account.
Making A Purchase From SaksFifthAvenue.com
The great news is that you can make a qualifying purchase at either a Saks retail location or online at SaksFifthAvenue.com. In my case I opted to shop online as I found it much easier than walking into a retail location.
After browsing the Saks online store for items that would qualify I placed my order. When placing the order I also signed up for a ShopRunner account. Thanks to ShopRunner, American Express card members receive complimentary 2 day shipping at over 100 participating online retailers. Next, as with most Amex charges, the charge posted to my account a few days later.
Just two days after my charge posted the $50 credit also appeared on my statement.
Receiving the credit was extremely simple once enrolled. I didn’t have to call or notify Amex, but instead, the statement credit automatically appeared. Then, come January 2019 I should have another $50 credit available and will repeat the process.
Final Thoughts
As I mentioned when I introduced the Saks benefit, I’m quite impressed with this benefit. I like that American Express continues to try to improve the Platinum card. Even though I don’t shop at Saks often I won’t have any problems maximizing this benefit each year. I’ll personally look to buy things like perfume, cologne, or household items that I otherwise wouldn’t spend full price on.
With this benefit card members now receive $500 in statement credits from the Platinum card. Considering the card only carries a $550 annual fee, the true out-of-pocket cost of the car is now only $50! I find that $50 for a card as rewarding as the Platinum card is a steal. If you don’t already have the Platinum card in your wallet I’d highly recommend applying for the card. However, I can only recommend applying if you opt to use my referral link.
