Hotel Review: The Mira Hong Kong, The Mira Suite 80

During my recent Mileage Run to Hong Kong I ended up with a full day and night in the city. When I left for my trip I actually didn’t have a hotel booked. As I left San Francisco I still wasn’t sure where I wanted to stay. Instead, I decided that I wanted to wait until I landed to book a room. I wanted to wait because I didn’t know how I would be feeling upon arrival and didn’t know what part of Hong Kong I wanted to stay in.

After the long flight I arrived in Hong Kong and was exhausted. I didn’t sleep that well on the flight and wasn’t feeling as ambitious as I was prior to takeoff. Since I wasn’t feeling adventurous I decided to stay in a part of Hong Kong that I’m now familiar with and in a hotel I’ve stayed previously. So, as I took the Airport Express train from Hong Kong airport into the city I ended up booking a room at The Mira Hong Kong hotel.

I ended up choosing this hotel because I’ve stayed at this hotel previously and loved it. The hotel is very nice, is in a perfect location, and is a Marriott hotel so I can use my elite benefits. Although the room I booked was a bit more expensive than others nearby I chose this location because I knew what to expect; or at least I thought I did.

The Mira Hong Kong Hotel Entrance

The Mira Hong Kong is located right in the heart of Hong Kong and is directly next to Kowloon Park. As you walk down Nathan Road you can’t miss the stunning entrance to the hotel.

The hotel facade features a wavy design which makes the hotel impossible to miss.

After admiring the facade for a few moments I crossed the street and entered the beautiful hotel lobby.

After entering the lobby I walked directly to the check-in desk to see if my room was ready. I was worried a room would not be available considering it was still morning and I had only booked the room an hour or so before.

Check-In

When I arrived at the hotel reception desk I could see the receptionist was a bit surprised by my booking. He noticed that I had booked the room just an hour before. When he pulled up my profile and saw that I had stayed at the hotel before he specifically said “Welcome back” and thanked me for staying at The Mira again.

We chatted for a few moments about the property and during that interaction I simply asked if any suites were available. Since I maintain Marriott Platinum Elite status I am eligible for upgrades when available. After I asked I was quickly told that there were no suites available. That wasn’t much of a surprise, so I simply retrieved my key and began the walk to my room.

Entering The Mira Suite 80 Suite

As I walked to my room the only thing I knew is that I was in a room on the 15th floor. When I entered the elevator and scanned my key to head upstairs I quickly noticed that I was in a room on the “club floor.” I still had no idea that I was in a suite and simply assumed I was in a standard room on the club level.

Next, I exited the elevator and tried to locate my room. The Mira features very dark hallways which are somewhat hard to navigate.

Eventually though I found the route to my room and made it to the door. Still, at this point I had no idea I was in a suite. That all changed as I entered the room.

The Mira Suite 80 Entryway

As I opened the door to the hotel I quickly realized that I was in a suite. For starters as I opened the door I quickly found a large living room which featured a sectional couch and a large leather chair.

Located along the entryway to the room was a small powder room. The powder room was completely lined in marble and looked beautiful.

The powder room only featured a toilet and sick, but it would be nice to have a second bathroom if you had guests and didn’t want them cutting through the bedroom to use the master bath.

That being said, the powder room wasn’t even close to as nice as the rest of the suite. After checking out the first bathroom I quickly walked around the rest of the suite which was fantastic.

The large living room features a sectional couch, leather chair, glass table, and an entertainment center.

Also within the living room of the suite was a nicely sized glass desk which was quite unique looking. Personally I found the desk chair a bit out of place, but the desk was a nice feature nonetheless.

When I arrived in the suite I found two notices sitting on the desk. The first notified guests that there was some repair work being done that could cause disruptions. The second notified guests that the amazing downstairs pool was closed for renovations.

I was sad to find the pool closed, but that has just been my luck recently. Perhaps I need to start checking hotel websites more closely going forward for amenity closures.

The Mira Suite 80 Mini-Bar

Directly next to the desk was the enclosed mini-bar. The only way to know there was a mini-bar was thanks to the small placard which indicated a mini-bar was behind the cabinet.

Inside was a small glass front mini-bar were a few drinks, but overall limited options.

Underneath the mini-bar were two drawers with various snacks and a pair of wine glasses.

In the next drawer were a few coffee mugs, some flatware, coffee pods, and a few tea bags.

Next to the mini-bar was a coffee maker, pair of espresso glasses, and two complimentary water bottles.

Prices for mini-bar items could be found on a small leaflet located on the glass desk.

Overall mini-bar prices were far below what you’d see in ultra high end hotels, but still much more expensive than convenience store prices.

The Mira Hong Kong Connectivity

One of the thing I quickly noticed about the Mira when I first stayed here was the connectivity. There is of course complimentary WiFi throughout the hotel, but on top of that there is a place to plug an ethernet cable and a few USB Outlets.

The Mira Hong Kong also offers a complimentary WiFi hotspot to guests. This little hotspot offers complimentary data when exploring Hong Kong and is an excellent amenity to offer to those traveling without international data.

The Mira Suite 80 Bedroom

After checking out the living room it was time to head into the bedroom. The suite’s bedroom can be completely enclosed thanks to a sliding pocket door.

Through the door you’ll find the amazing bedroom and master bathroom of the Mira Suite 80.

The bedroom features a massive king bed with extremely plush pillows and very comfortable bedding.

Next to the bed was a single purple velvet chair located directly next to the entrance to the walk-in closet.

The closet was large enough to store at least a weeks worth of clothes and Im’ sure additional hangers were available upon request.

Finally, at the far end of the bedroom was the entertainment console and a large glass window which looked into the incredible master bathroom.

The master bathroom is separated from the bedroom by a smoked glass sliding door and electronic window shades which close at the push of a button.

The Mira Suite 80 Master Bathroom

The centerpiece of the massive master bath is the oversized bath tub. The tub sits awkwardly in the room and doesn’t offer massage jets, but my gosh it looks great!

Along the back wall of the bathroom are his and her sinks which sit on a counter in front of a massive mirror. The mirror even features a built-in television screen.

At the near end of the counter was a small tray with several complimentary amenities.

Underneath the tv screen was a small tray with two more bottles of water, two glasses, hand towels, tissues, and several bathroom amenities.

Located near the entrance to the master bathroom was the toilet which sits inside of a glass room with a separate door.

Finally, at the far end of the bathroom was a massive shower room. The shower was among the best I’ve ever seen in a hotel. It came complete with an overhead rain shower head, a handheld shower head, wall nozzles, and, well, it doubled as a steam room.

Located next to the shower door were the steam room controls. The steamy room coupled with the various shower heads proved the best way to beat any jet lag I was experiencing prior to my arrival.

While I don’t need a suite when I travel I would love to have a master bathroom like this one at every future hotel I visit.

The Mira Club Level Lounge

As I was in a suite on the Club Level I had access to the glass enclosed club lounge located in the reception area of the 15h floor. The club lounge was only offering snacks when I stopped in, but the snacks were great and the refreshments welcomed.

As you walk into the lounge there are a few jars of candy available for the taking. Toward the center of the buffet area of the lounge is a large counter which sits above several glass doored refrigerators. Inside the various fridges were plenty of bottled waters and sodas. Alcoholic beverages were also available in the lounge throughout the day, but were not self service.

On the other end of the serving area was the dessert buffet. When I stopped into the lounge there were several sweets to choose from and each were plenty tasty.

I didn’t get to visit during the Club Lounge on a weekday morning or during normal dining hours so I’m not sure what would normally be available, but above was the spread on offer on a random Saturday afternoon.

Final Thoughts

Wow, once again I was blown away by The Mira Hong Kong. Even when I stayed at the hotel in a standard room I absolutely loved the hotel. Staying in a suite for a night helped me enjoy the hotel even more.

While The Mira isn’t the least expensive you’ll find in the area, I find it to be a great value for money. Standard rooms typically go for $150 to $200 a night and for that you’ll be staying at a hotel that seems like it would cost much more. Additionally, if you’re a Marriott elite you should have fairly good luck getting upgrade to at least a larger standard room which also features an amazing bathroom and extremely comfortable bed. Lastly, all guests have access to the stunning downstairs pool (when open) and surprisingly large fitness center.

Finally, I really appreciate the location of this particular hotel. From the front door you can easily walk to the high-end shopping district, Kowloon Park, and even down to the waterfront. If you want to venture out farther the MTR is located just a few blocks away. This makes the hotel especially easy to get to from the airport.
