American Airlines and SimpliSafe have teamed up to offer new SimpliSafe customers 14,000 AAdvantage miles when buying a home security system. While the offer alone isn’t enough to convince me to buy a home security system, it is a great incentive for anyone who is already looking into a SimpliSafe security system.
What Is SimpliSafe?
SimpliSafe is a wireless home security system that offers 24/7 live monitoring for a low monthly rate. The basic SimpliSafe system costs around $200 with monitoring rates starting at about $15 a month.
Unlike a traditional hardwired security system, the SimpliSafe system works by pairing various wireless security sensors to a central wireless base station. This means you can start with a basic starter package and add security sensors as you see fit. SimpliSafe currently sells motion sensors, glass break sensors, water sensors, temperature sensors, and entry sensors. You can also pair SimpliSafe security cameras, camera doorbells, and smart locks to your system.
All of this makes installing a home security system much cheaper and easier than a traditional hardwired system. Furthermore, SimpliSafe’s monthly monitoring rates are significantly cheaper than other hardwired alternatives. According to SimpliSafe, home owners can expect to to save $300+ a year over a traditional system.
Lastly, what I find especially exciting about SimpliSafe is that it’s the perfect solution for renters! Renters can purchase a SimpliSafe system and use it in their rental unit and take it with them when they move.
American Airlines Offering 14,000 AAdvantage Miles With SimpliSafe
American Airlines recently partnered with SimpliSafe to offer AAdvantage members 14,000 American Airlines miles for signing up for a home security system.
Furthermore, the terms of the promotion are actually fairly generous. To qualify for the 14,000 bonus miles, AAdvantage members must purchase a new SimpliSafe system that includes a base station, a keypad, and at least three sensors.
From there, you must keep the system for at least 60 days to qualify for the bonus miles. If you return your SimpliSafe system within the first 60 days, you will not qualify for the promotional miles. For what it’s worth SimpliSafe offers a full refund for any system returned within the first 60 days of use.
Final Thoughts
Promotions like these are exciting even if you’re not exactly in the market for a home security system. In theory, you could purchase a system, keep it in its original packaging, and try to sell it. Sure you might take a small loss, but the loss on the sale could be offset by the value of the AAdvantage miles. So, I wouldn’t write this promotion off (or others like it) just because you’re not in the market for a home security system.
Of course, this promotion is fantastic if you’re already looking for a home security system. If you’re going to buy a SimpliSafe system anyway, you might as well sign up through this promotion. In doing so you can expect to earn about $200 worth of AAdvantage miles for a purchase you would have made anyway.
