A Great British Airways Business Class Deal I Won’t Use

One of the most common questions I get from family and friends is, “where I can I find these flights?” Usually the question comes after I talk about how I flew to Asia or Europe in business class for less than they paid to cross the US in a middle seat. However, the answer isn’t all that interesting. I think most people want a very simple answer, such as a single website or twitter feed featuring perfectly curated list of deals. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy.

Each day I check several places for flight deals. The first site I check is the FlyerTalk deals page, this page is home to live, up to the minute deals, and has given me some incredible deals over the past few years. Likewise, I try to contribute where I can, but it’s hard to find deals on your own.

The next place(s) I check are a series of blogs. I personally find Lucky at OneMileAtATime, Gib from GodSaveThePoints, or occasionally Gary from ViewFromTheWing to be especially helpful. These blogs often highlight “useful” deals that myself, and others, can actually use.

Great British Airways Business Class Fares From New York To Europe

By checking all of these different sources, I usually find at least one great (useful) deal a month. That might seem like a lot, but it’s more than enough. That’s because you can use a deal a few times over if you find it particularly worthwhile.

Today, I noticed such a deal, thanks to Lucky at OMMAT. The deal is for British Airways Business Class travel from New York to Germany for about $1,700! What makes this deal especially exciting is that, unlike many other cheap business class deals, it originates in the United States. Trust me, that’s hard to find.

To put this in perspective, the typical business class fare from the US to Europe with a major global airline is about twice this price. Even better, this deal is available during the summer months which is when travel to Europe is especially expensive.

Final Thoughts

Hopefully this post proves useful to a few of you. It’s not the deal of the century, or even the year, but it’s a nice fare that I hope someone can use. Flights from the US to Europe in the summer can often go for well over $1,000 in Economy. For just a few hundred dollars more you can cross the Atlantic in Business Class. Even if you don’t necessarily want to go to Berlin, you could use this fare to get over there, and then find cheap travel from Berlin to other cities in Europe.

While this is a gear fare and one that I’d love to take advantage of, I sadly won’t be able to. That’s because I’m in an interesting spot this year. I’ve already booked enough travel this year to qualify for elite status with American. While I’d love to go to Europe, it just doesn’t make sense to pay more than $1,000 over Economy considering I don’t need status. However, if I were still a few miles behind, this is definitely a deal I’d consider taking.
